The calm before the storm

Lake Town, the last stop before Thorin, Bilbo and the company climb the Erebor and encounter Smaug.

I worked on this cosplay for the last two months because I wanted to have it finished for the Connichi and for Desolation of Smaug in December!! I saw pictures of Bilbo in this coat and knew I had to do it. It wasn't very difficult to sew it - but the ruffles at the side were a pain in the arse. I pondered about how I want to make them for ages until I decided I'd try and cut wool into loose strands. I hot-glued them on a piece of fabric and sewed them in, and then I cut every single strand of wool by hand in order to thin them out. It definitely looked good in the end! I also am very happy that I found fabric that looked similar to the original. All in all, I am rather happy with it. I need to re-do the vest and all, and try to make the wig longer somehow, but I am really happy. And the next time, I will have a Smaug with me. <3
